Course Description

The curriculum is designed to achieve the following general objectives of the Post graduate Diploma in Guidance , Counselling & Psychotherapy:

- • To assist students in planning for educational and vocational choices.
- • To acquire the core competence and knowledge related to Guidance & Counselling.
- • To deepen their knowledge and understanding of education, specialize in select areas and develop research capacities.
P. G. Diploma In Counselling & Guidance is a one year program. The diploma program is aimed at upgrading and enhancing the abilities and skill set of educators, teachers, school administrators as well as untrained guidance personnel in order to ensure the holistic growth of aspirants and ability to handle their socio-emotional, academic and ethical issues with ease and expertise.
Counselling provided by trained professionals can make a profound impact on the lives of individuals, families and communities. This service helps people navigate difficult life situations, such as the death of a loved one, divorce, natural disasters, school stress and the loss of a job. It provides the tools and insights to manage mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression. Ultimately, counselling empowers people to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
Diploma in Counselling & Guidance course helps aspirants separately at the adolescent stage, as well as planned guidance programme held by the guidance personnel. This may assist them to enhance and create their interests, skills, abilities, as well as overall personality and adjustments and take the decisions whenever needed.
After the successful completion of this program, candidates may get career opportunities in areas such as Navoday Vidhyalay Sangathan (NVS), Kendriya Vidhyalay Sangathan (NVS), National Rural Health Mission(NRHM), National and State Health Organizations, All Types of Judicial Mediation Centres, International Schools, Colleges, NGOs, WHO Projects, Educational institutes, Sport Counselling Boards on National and State Level, News, Film Industry and Media, etc. Diploma in Counselling & Guidance candidates may work in profiles such as Marriage Counselor, family Counselor, Health Counselor, School Counselor, Career Guidance Counselor, etc.
Duration and Working Days
The Post Graduate Diploma in Guidance and Counselling is one year program (spread over two semesters) including field attachment and research dissertation. Candidates shall be permitted to complete the program requirements of the one-year program within a maximum period of three years from the date of admission to the program. The summer / winter vacations should be used for field attachment/other activities.
Working Days
There shall be at least one hundred eighty (180) working days in the year, inclusive of the period of admission, classroom transaction, practicum, field study and conduct of examination. The institution shall work for a minimum of thirty six hours in a week (five or six days) during which faculty and students concerned with the conduct of the program shall be available for interaction, dialogue, consultation and mentoring students. The minimum attendance of candidates shall be 75% for theory Courses and Practical.
Eligibility and Procedure of Admission:
- Candidates who have done Bachelor’s Degree with at least 40% marks are eligible to take admission.
- Reservation and relaxation for SC/ST/PWD and other applicable categories shall be as per the rules of the Central Government/ State Government whichever is applicable.
